Tip of the Day #5 – Outdoor Lighting Solution

In today’s tip of the day, I will be sharing a tip that I learned courtesy of the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, MA. My tip is on a pretty cool outdoor nighttime lighting solution to assist individuals as a lighted guide line. It is a relatively cheap solution that can potentially make a big difference for someone who is low-vision or visually impaired. And my tip is to add Christmas lights to a handrail to provide some illumination and provide a lighted guideline to follow. The great thing about doing this is that Christmas lights come in many different colors, sizes, and lengths and can be easily extended with further attachments. I recommend trying this tip to see if it is helpful for you or someone you know. If you want to see this tip in action check out my video here.

  1. Hey Mike!

I love your videos on hints and tips and look forward to getting them every day!

The videos all have had helpful information that you present in a straightforward, clear, and easy to understand fashion. I have shared about them with my family and friends as well as some of my docs that have folks that could benefit from them like I do. I will keep looking for the videos!

Two things. First: the outdoor lighting. How do you avoid stepping on the lights marking the bottom step? And second, a request. More videos with Chloe assisting, please! 🙂

I hope you are all well and staying healthy!

Thanks for all you do, Annie
